Silico Manganese is an alloy with 65% to 68% manganese, 16% to 21% silicon, and 1.5% to 2% carbon. It is produced by smelting of slag from high-carbon Ferro Manganese or of Manganese ore with coke and a quartz flux. Smelting temperatures are high and greater energy is needed to reduce the quartz to silicon.
Ferrosilicomanganese finds extensive use in the steelmaking industry as a powerful alloying element for producing various types of steel. It enhances the mechanical properties of steel, such as strength and wear resistance, and contributes to the formation of stable structural phases.
Foundry Alloys: In foundry applications, ferrosilicomanganese is employed to improve the characteristics of cast alloys. It helps reduce thermal stresses, increases metal fluidity, and prevents the formation of undesirable phases. Iron and Steel Metallurgy: Ferrosilicomanganese is utilized in iron and steel metallurgy for desulfurization and degassing of molten metal. It aids in removing sulfur and gases from iron and steel, enhancing the quality and purity of the final product.
Production of Manganese Compounds: Ferrosilicomanganese serves as a source of manganese for the production of various manganese compounds, including oxides and sulfates. These compounds are used in industrial applications as well as in the manufacturing of fertilizers and chemical products.
