Ferrosilicon is very important in steelmaking industry
Ferro silicon is usually used in steel industry as a deoxidizing material and it is also used as a bud or spraut in the Moulding industry. It also has major applications as deoxidizing material in steel manufacturing and alloy manufacturing industries, in the production of cast iron and steel, making improvement in the metallic structure and granulation in the molding of alloy and non-alloy cast irons, restoration of other Ferro alloys, and especially in the structure of nouvelle alloy steel.
The addition of ferro silicon is very important in the steelmaking process. Ferrosilicon can not only be used as a deoxidizer, but also can increase the temperature of molten steel. The increase in temperature is very helpful to improve the quality of steel ingots and the recovery rate.
Among these applications, the steelmaking industry, foundry industry and ferroalloy industry are the largest users of ferrosilicon. They consume more than 90% of ferro silicon. Among the various grades of ferrosilicon, the most widely used is 75% ferro silicon. In the steelmaking industry, about 3-5kg of 75% ferro silicon is consumed per ton of steel produced.
